My Unwavering Faith in Africa’s Future

My commitment to Africa remains the unwavering centerpiece of my professional journey. Last week, a conversation in London with someone I deeply respect reinforced this. As the conversation evolved, he asked about relocating and a few other things. I jokingly said that all the people I used to invite for my Nation Building events while I was in Akure are now building the Nation from abroad in the US, UK, and across Europe/North America. I ended my response with this: most of my career and professional decisions in life are directly connected to being able to give back to the continent in Africa—and irrespective of where my journey takes me, one thing I am certain about is that Africa is a centerpiece.
So, earnings, exposure, and capacity building may take me around places, but giving back to the continent starting with Nigeria will always have a huge place in my heart. I started 2025 with a decision that I want to travel the continent to understand the unique socio-cultural blend across Africa and possibly meet other people like me. Sadly, I have not been able to complete a trip, and Q1 is already over. But yeah, I don’t underestimate the things that can happen over the next few months.
I believe in the continent. I believe in the power of narratives to change the dynamics. I believe that despite the many things happening, we all cannot give in to pessimism. While I do not have an issue with people who have given up because there are evidently things that make you wonder, and the prevailing experience can be disheartening, especially when you see what is possible out there. However, I am convinced that I will do my own part. I wonder how I keep the spirits up (but there are days when it gets tougher). And it didn’t start today; my BA Mass Communication thesis was on the influence of citizen journalism on National Development.
Having contributed at a level across radio, newspaper, brand communications and PR, and now brand marketing over the last decade, I am open to roundtables, development initiatives, fellowships, and conversations that leverage storytelling as a tool for the socio-economic development of Africa. If you are working on impactful projects or initiatives focused on Africa’s progress, I’d be keen to connect and explore potential collaborations.
